DCH is hiring Nurse Surveyors!

The Healthcare Facility Regulation Division (HFRD) is looking for Nurse Surveyors to help inspect healthcare facilities for rules and regulations compliance. Learn more in our campaign video. Minimum requirements include being a Registered Professional Nurse, OR having a Bachelor's degree in nursing from accredited college or university, AND 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

DCH is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Compliance Nurse 2, Acute Care Unit with the Healthcare Facility Regulation Division. The Acute Care Program provides federal and state regulatory oversight for facilities caring for patients experiencing acute illnesses, injuries, or disorders. This is a homebased position that will document and conduct on-site surveys at healthcare facilities. This position requires extensive (up to 90% overnight) state-wide travel. Occasional weekend and after-hours work may also be required.

Job Responsibilities

Under general to limited supervision, the Compliance Nurse 2, with the Acute Care Unit conducts on-site surveys of non-long term care facilities regulated by the state to determine compliance with applicable state and/or federal rules and regulations. This position may be asked to survey other facility types as needed. Surveys are conducted either independently or as a part of a multi-disciplinary team using both automated and written survey processes to monitor compliance with federal and state requirements in Acute Care facilities. This position requires extensive (up to 90%overnight) state-wide travel. Occasional weekend and after-hours work may also be required. Additionally, this position performs the following.

  • Reviews state, federal, and other regulatory standards in order to determine facility compliance.
  • Responsible for oversight of nursing care and services delivered in Acute Care facilities.
  • Functions as team lead and facilitates the survey process. Team may include multiple members of the agency's multidisciplinary team.
  • Responsible for planning, conducting, and processing assigned surveys in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and agency protocols.
  • Responsible for producing survey reports and documentation with minimal assistance within the defined timeframe which includes but is not limited to supporting documents, statement of deficiencies and tracking work hours (670hours).
  • With minimal assistance and revision, write federal and state deficiencies in response to identified noncompliance.
  • Assists in quality review work and program management as needed and other job duties as assigned by the ProgramManager.
  • Participate in training programs for surveyors.
  • Responsible for professional communication with all internal and external customers.
  • Assist agency's response to disasters and emergencies.
  • Participates in and manages the agency's budget by making cost effective decisions.
  • Assist with staff development as requested including orientation, in-service training, workshops, and continuing education for agency staff. Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse, two (2) years of which in an administrative or supervisory capacity and current Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse; or eight (8) years of experience as a Registered Nurse (HCP073) or position equivalent, two (2) years of which in an environment related to the area of assignment, four (4) years of which as a supervisor and current Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse.

    Note: Some positions may require certification or licensure. Possession of a valid Georgia driver's license, which would enable the applicant to drive in Georgia, and use of a car at work, are required for employees in this job.

    Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates, who have a healthcare background and in addition to meeting the qualifications listed above, possess the following.
    • Two years of nursing experience in an acute care facility within the past five years.
    • Experience in the application of standard and/or accepted standards of care.
    • Experience with electronic medical records and the ability to effectively and proficiently use Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
    • Experienced in the general use of computers, including the ability to effectively and proficiently use the Internet and its associated technologies.
    • Knowledge of healthcare regulations.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote/homebased environment.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a professional manner, including the ability to effectively and proficiently use email and chat software to include, but not limited to Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
    • Experience in public speaking, leading/facilitating teams, or presentations.
    • Experience interpreting healthcare specific data and/or metrics.
    • Current Georgia drivers license and dependable transportation.
    • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to lift 20 pounds.
    • Preference given to candidates with experience in risk management, quality improvement and/or regulatory compliance.
